Connecting the social and built environment to health and health inequalities

Neighborhoods & Spatial Context

Understanding how local environments influence health and aging.

We study how neighborhood conditions, ranging from socioeconomic resources to infrastructure and environmental exposures, shape patterns of health across populations. We’re home to the National Neighborhood Data Archive (NaNDA), one of the largest open data repositories of neighborhood-level characteristics in the United States. Creating and sharing these data allows us and others to examine how place influences disease risk, access to opportunities, and trajectories of aging over time.
